about The Instructor

Picture
Kate Jones is an established performer and educator from the greater Seattle area.  Her greatest passion is for classical orchestral music but she also loves contributing to any and all types of theatrical productions in pit orchestras.  She has also had the joy and privilege of working with many contemporary composers to premiere and record new compositions.

In addition to her frequent performances, Ms. Jones is also an avid educator and has been teaching violin since she was in her teens.  After receiving her undergraduate degree, she served as a private teaching assistant to Jeri Jorgensen, a member of the performance faculty at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO.  As Ms. Jorgensen’s assistant, she learned pedagogical techniques from some of the foremost violin studios, such as those of Ivan Galamian, the Sassmannshaus Tradition, and Dr. Shinichi Suzuki.  She also served for many years as a sectional coach for the youth groups of the Missouri Symphony Conservatory and the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association, the latter of which she is a proud alumna.

She recently served as the Assistant Concertmaster of the Olympia Symphony Orchestra, and frequently performed with other groups as well including the Symphony Tacoma, the Seattle Collaborative Orchestra, and the Saratoga Orchestra.  She holds a Master’s degree in violin performance from the University of Missouri, Columbia where she received an assistantship as a member of the Mizzou New Music Ensemble.  She is also an alumna of St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and holds a Bachelor of the Arts degree in music and theatre.

She is the proud owner of a 2008 Guarneri model violin by Robert Clemens.
